Work

My main professional interests are in enterprise and the use of “social” software to improve interactions. I specialise in Atlassian’s software and particularly using Confluence, JIRA and the plugins that extend both to improve the way people work, build software and communicate.

I am part of the team over at Adaptavist.com, a company that deals solely with Atlassian software. We host, customise, develop, support and provide training, all services and products dealing with Atlassian products.

My role at Adaptavist is varied. I develop and deliver Confluence, JIRA and GreenHopper training as well as the other plugins that extend Atlassian applications. I also work with organisations to find ways to improve interactions using Atlassian software. My strengths are in communication; I’m very down to earth and approachable. I have a deep understanding of technology and I can explain and communicate with people at many different levels. As such I often operate as an interface between stakeholders, developing proposals and managing projects.

Prior to working at Adaptavist I was a web developer/designer, multimedia designer and a lecturer in web-based technologies. I used to use Open Source Software and technologies such as PHP and RubyOnRails. I was also partial to a bit of Flash, video editing and DVD creation. I still dabble in aspects of those technologies in my current role.

I’ve been a web and multimedia developer and I taught at a Manchester college where latterly I worked in the Elearning area, promoting Elearning and developing learning objects. I was also a lecturer in Multimedia and Technology. I’ve also used my languages and technical skills to work with bands and performers, where I operate video equipment.

Not So Work

I am fascinated by technology and all things web development, design and multimedia.

My aim is to use this site to add links to interesting stuff related to my web design, web development and technology interests. I’m also developing an interest in cycling as a means of getting fit after a ten year break from fitness, which I am hoping to provide riveting and entertaining information about.

I’m also a huge comedy fan. One of my dormant aims is to do comedy writing. I have a very dark sense of humour which is often puerile and bizarre. My ideal day would be spent watching Flight of the Conchords, Family Guy and Psychoville. All three, comedy excellence.

Apart from comedy, biking and geekery, I love walking in hills and mountains, languages, literature, art and music. I’m also very fond of my husband. I often ironically refer to as him indoors; the joke being it’s me who is indoors as I often work from home. See? Yes, hilarious isn’t it.
